My local paper that is, for the most part, level headed, still has bias in it’s editorial page. Mainly they carry higher quality left-wing columnists, but lesser-known conservative columnists. Case in point is that they carry Paul Krugman, but don’t carry columnists like Walter E. Williams or Thomas Sowell. I wrote a letter

I am a subscriber to the .  I am very unhappy that your paper carries Paul Krugman. I am conservative, but I enjoy reading different points of view and enjoy most of the liberal columnists. Paul Krugman, who passes himself off as a economist, more often than not uses his column for vitriolic attacks against conservative and libertarian points of view. He recently used his column to accuse Glenn Beck and Bill O’Reilly of directly causing some heinous acts that were just in the news.  Krugman often uses generalities and doesn’t do a good job of teaching the fundamentals of why, in his opinion, his point of view is correct. I would much rather see columnists such as Walter E. Williams, or Thomas Sowell.  In fact, it so disgusts me that this hate monger has a voice in my local paper that I would consider switching my subscription to another paper. Please consider adding someone like Sowell, who is thoughtful, even-handed, and a has well-written columns.
Here was his non-response blow off.
Dear Mr. Bux, Thank you for taking the time to write and for reading The Republican-Herald. We realize that not every columnist or opinion and we attempt to publish a variety of viewpoints on different issues. While some raeders disagree with some of those columnists and some of their work, it’s difficult to argue with Krugman’s resume, including the Nobel Prize in October. emphasis added We’ll keep the columnists you suggest in mind for possible future use. Please keep reading. Editor nuff said. And as far as “nobel laureate”, I would rather have receive a citizen of the year award from my local Elk’s club than that paper weight Nobel prize.
